Control freak. Catastrophizer. Obsessive.
Not typically great qualities to have. Except perhaps in the architectural profession.
In my experience, it’s better to have a liberal sprinkling of these characteristics across the design team, and I’m slightly reluctant to admit I probably bring all three. Of course, the ability to listen, reason and communicate is equally important if anything productive is going to come out of the mix, and I’m pleased to say those qualities come as standard too.
When it comes to Building Regulations and technical detailing, my attention to detail and habit of thinking several steps ahead have always paid dividends. I spend a lot of time asking myself, “What’s likely to go wrong here?” because I’d much rather solve the problem on a drawing with a coffee than on a building site with an audience.
Over the years, I’ve always found great value in removing grey areas, communicating expectations clearly, and defining contractor accountability at the earliest opportunity. Edwin Lutyens famously said, “A working drawing is a letter to the builder,” and I’ve always approached my Building Regulations drawings with that in mind.
Of course, for any letter to be effective, it also needs to arrive on time. When we agree a deadline, you can rest assured it will be met.
I’m always happy to discuss how my services could best work for you and your practice. My typical framework includes:
Residential projects of virtually any size or type.
A fixed fee for each Building Regulations package, including any reasonable requests for revisions or further information from Building Control.
Minimal supervision required, with regular progress updates.
Working behind the scenes as a confidential extension of your practice.
Reliable turnaround, high standards and agreed deadlines.
Drawings provided in AutoCAD 2D DWG format. I work on both AutoCAD for Mac and Windows.
Flexible support, including planning and sketch scheme services where required, using AutoCAD 2D, SketchUp Pro (I’ve been a user since its inception), and hand-finished sketches and drawings. I am very happy to send samples of work on request.
